On a working ranch, cattle
and ranch work takes place all year
long.
We eat breakfast at 6am, catch and saddle
our horses by 7am and
then "hit the trail". We will either
stop for lunch on the trail around noon
or catch a hot meal in the Lodge Ranch
House. We are on the trail again
by 1:30pm "workin' those critters" till we are done for the afternoon,
just in time to relax and cleanup a bit
before the dinner bell rings at the Lodge. |

|
| We
have put together a brief description
of some of the things that take place
during our ranch weeks. We invite
you to call us to discuss what experiences
you would like to have with us and we
will share with you the events that we
anticipate will be taking place during
that time. |

|
Spring (April,
May and June)- Calving (tending
to newborns) and branding as well
as gathering, sorting and moving
pairs to summer pastures; doctoring
cows; heifers and calves and mending
fences are just a few of the activities.
Participating in short drives of
a day or less are typical weekly
events, when we are moving the cattle
from pasture to pasture. Spring
activities are difficult to schedule;
weather, sickness, calving and feeding
all play a part in the daily work. |
Summer (July, August and early September)- We are moving cattle,
gathering bulls, checking water,
salt and fences, doctoring cows,
heifers and calves. We will
also be out looking for strays and
fence jumpers and moving them back
where they belong. |

|

|
Fall (late September and October)- You will find us gathering
and sorting, vaccinating and weaning
the calves. You can participate
in short half or one day cattle drives
that may occur several times a week
as we prepare to ship cattle to winter
yards. Checking water tanks
and laying in hay and feed for the
winter will also be part of our days
work. |
In addition to the ranch work activities mentioned above, you
will have an opportunity to participate
in our other daily events such as
trail rides, arena work and other
general recreational activities of
your choice. We also offer
a daily Cowboy School where our cowboys
will work with you on your horsemanship
skills, roping skills and riding.
|

|
Each evening during dinner, we will discuss the next day's schedule
of cattle work. You may choose
what you would like to participate
in- cattle work, Cowboy School or
scenic trail rides or a combination. It's
your cowboy vacation! You decide!
Our ranch work takes place all year,
so you will also have an opportunity
to experience some of that work with
us during the other times of the
year.
During late
October and early November, we may
be driving cattle down from the high
country to our winter pastures at
the ranch headquarters. We
also continue to separate and wean
calves, pregnancy check our heifers
and cows and ride checking herds.
Different ranch work activities
happen during various times, depending
on seasonal changes in weather and
scheduling requirements. You
can arrange for participation in
any of our ranch work activities,
so please feel free to discuss your
vacation wishes with us.
