Powderhorn Ranch on the ABC Family Channel

You probably remember the Powderhorn Ranch from the ABC Family Channel! ABC whisked Shelly away from the Ranch, and sent her to LA - to work with TV Celebrity Leeza Gibbons, while Leeza's personal assistant Vincent Arcuri was sent to the Powderhorn Ranch to be a Wrangler. Great Fun ensued - and the popular "Switched Prime Time" episode highlighted the Ranch, our guests, and all of the fun adventures we do each week.

ESPN, Walker’s Cay Chronicles

You may have seen the Powderhorn Ranch on ESPN or our favorite show Walker’s Cay Chronicles. Our great friends Flip and Dianne Pallot host the show, and there is plenty of fishing and fun at the Powderhorn Ranch. The segment showcased the Powderhorn Ranch, Powderhorn Valley, Cebolla Creek, and the fantastic trout fishing opportunities available at the Ranch. The Fine Living Network

You’ve heard of the Powderhorn Ranch. Perhaps you saw the Ranch featured on The Fine Living Network, or Radical Sabbaticals. The episode chronicled Shelly and I making the biggest career change of our lives, and now living our dream at the Ranch – we our celebrating our EIGHTH fantastic season as Owners of the historic Powderhorn Ranch!

2007 Entertainment Line Up

We always have a powerful line-up of talent for you at the Powderhorn Ranch! We host some kind of entertainment every night of your stay!

You may choose to enjoy Cowboy Entertainer Will Dudley. Will’s an internationally famous recording artist, songwriter, singer, and entertainer. Will was voted the 2005 Indy entertainer of the year. Will, who is known as the ‘Cowboy Troubadour’ has 5 fantastic CD’s.

We host local entertainer Evelyn Roper; recording artist, writer, and singer – who will bring back memories of a young Patsy Cline.

You can Square Dance the night away with Ken Ashwood – 25 wonderful years calling squares at the Powderhorn Ranch – you get to learn the ropes with his wonderful family; wife Kathy, and kids Michael, and Melissa.

Or you may choose to relax on the front porch of the Ross Lodge, or around the spacious pool deck listening to local musical artist Chuck Farnsworth sing western favorites and play guitar.

Each night of your stay, Shelly and I provide some form of entertainment; authentic western entertainers, volleyball, square dance - well, except Friday – On Friday night, after a fantastic steak dinner - you get the Powderhorn Ranch Staff Show – and WHAT a show it is! Each of our staff members take part in a ‘Ranch Review’ replete with poetry, music, songs, skits, and Shelly’s choreographed routines to musical classics!

You may choose our Ranch for the Riding, or the Fishing – but you will never forget the fantastic entertainment or our Staff Show!

Our 8th annual Gourmet Week Celebration will be held from Sunday, September 9th through Saturday, September 15th 2006. Check the Gourmet Week link on this site for more information. Gourmet Week is always a hit, and the availability is limited, please plan ahead to insure your spot for this amazing annual event. Our line-up of celebrated Chef’s is unparalleled.

You may enjoy the culinary masterpieces of Chef Vic Matthews from the Black Bear Restaurant, Celebrity Chef & famous Author Gwen Ashley Walters, or the wildly inventive taste sensations of Executive Chef Lawrence ‘Chip’ Johnson of the Briarhurst Manor. Whether our Ranch Chef, or the selections of any of the 6 amazing Chefs we bring in for this culinary event each season - you will enjoy fall colors in the Rockies, all of our great adventures, and the best cuisine and wine pairings anywhere.

Special Seminars

Shelly and I are renowned expert instructors in Martial Arts, Firearms, self-defense, and Executive & Dignitary Protection.

Each Spring and Fall, Shelly and I offer private ‘Powderhorn Edge’ Seminars here on the Ranch.

The Powderhorn Ranch is secluded and remote, and offers great accommodations and meals during your rigorous, intensive training seminars.

Our no-nonsense, street-smart approach during the Edge training seminars will appeal to any rank, style, or skill-level of Martial Artist; or Law Enforcement professional, or private citizen / corporation. You need an Edge – get the Powderhorn Edge!

Hunting

The Powderhorn Ranch and the Powderhorn Edge are licensed, bonded, and insured Colorado Rocky Mountain Guide & Outfitters. We are proud members of the Colorado Outfitters Association. After the Powderhorn Ranch ends its Dude and Guest Ranch season, we change channels and offer private, small, guided ‘Executive Hunts’ for huge Elk, abundant Mule Deer, Black Bear, and the wiley and dangerous Mountain Lion.

The Powderhorn Ranch is located in the middle of GMU’s 66 and 67, two of the best limited hunting areas in Colorado. We also offer executive hunts on private property. We also offer special “Land Owner’ voucher hunts.

The Way-Back machine

Hold on Sherman! Peabody was lucky enough to come up with these black and white photos of our rich, Ranch heritage in the historic Powderhorn Valley. Will Thompson III and his family still visit our Ranch. Will is the grandson of Will and Violet Thompson, owners of the Ranch in the early 1900's. Will senior is pictured on his horse 'Violet' at the entrance of the Ranch. You can see some of our original log cabins in the background. This picture was taken just to the north of the Ross Lodge where our home now stands! The other picture is Will with his lovely wife Violet and ‘little Will’.
