Activities at JJJ

The Triple J specializes in western horseback riding. The horses and riding program are our focus, and we will attempt to match your ability and personality to a well-suited mount.  We begin each week with plenty of hands-on instruction from professional Wranglers skilled in complementing your horsemanship. Our quality herd of over sixty well-loved quarter horses are mountain savvy and well suited for all riding levels.

Riding activities are then geared throughout the week to your level and interests. Morning and afternoon rides, as well as all day adventures take you from flower-strewn meadows to the mountain high country. At the end of a gravel road, tucked just inside the Rocky Mountain Front, ans surrounded on 3 sides by the National Forest, this unspoiled location allows for endless riding opportunities with dramatic changes in scenery. This is mountain country. The famous Bob Marshall Wilderness, a million acres of pristine, roadless wilderness, is just a horseback ride away. It is habitat for abundant wildlife and a photographer's dream. You may want to admire the scenery from a walk, or feel more adventurous to lope, where terrain allows. Guests may spend extra time in the arena with a Wrangler to perfect your skills, or assist with tacking your horse. Flexibility, individual attention, and comfort are a priority.

Each week has special features with a spectacular ride to a cook-out, where you'll arrive at a vista point in time for a steak dinner around the campfire. From late June to early August, ask about participating in top of the world rides to Elk Hill in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, pontoon boat rides on Gibson Lake or fly-fishing excursions to the North Fork of the Sun River. The Adult only weeks begin September 3 and emphasize long, scenic rides through brilliant colors among mountain splendor.

Out of the saddle, you can enjoy fly-fishing instruction at the ranch trout ponds to whet your appetite for fishing Rainbow, Cutthroat or Brown trout on the Sun River or Gibson Lake. Interpretive tours, the Mortimer peak scramble, or endless hiking opportunities for wildlife watching contribute to a back to nature experience. Western cook-outs and evening campfires with cowboy poetry or singing provide a relaxing end to a busy day at the JJJ.

The JJJ Ranch is perfect for youngsters too! We help kids discover the wonders of nature in a safe environment. The Children's Program is available for 6-14 year olds. Each child is given the opportunity to have their own horse for the week to safely learn horsemanship skills with our dedicated Kids Wranglers. End of the week horse games are always a highlight. Other special activities include wildlife hikes, nature studies, fossil hunting, arts and crafts, roasting marshmallows, scavenger hunts. Kids love to run & explore, fish or catch frogs in the ranch ponds, learn to rope, build forts, play, swim and make new friends. They will have more fun than imagined and talk about it ... seemingly forever! Children are not required to participate in any activity, but activities are available should parents desire a little freedom to participate in more scenic and challenging rides.

Teenagers usually choose activities with other teens, with young adult staff, or with family or other adults, but are offered different choices daily. Families may ride together depending on the type of ride and the child's proven ability, which is at the Wranglers discretion. A separate ride will be taken for adults who do not wish to ride with children.
