RANCH LOCATION
The
ranch is located about 50 miles southwest of Denver and about 1.5
hours from the Denver airport. We are truly high in the heart of
the Rockies with the snow-capped peaks of the Continental Divide
within riding distance to the west, and Mt. Evans to the east. Pikes
Peak can often be seen to the south.
We are surrounded
by Pike National Forest with many of the highest peaks in the Rockies.
There are literally millions of acres of secluded, unspoiled country
to enjoy; alpine meadows colored with wildflowers, cascading streams
and deep blue mountain lakes far from any sign of civilization.
The
seclusion of the ranch has helped nature preserve its wildlife.
Elk and deer abound and our herd of Bighorn sheep is one of the
best on this continent. Mountain goats, bear and mountain lion also
live in our high country. And the beaver are plentiful.
Twenty miles
to the north is historic Georgetown which a century ago became known
as the Silver Queen -- the silver mining capital of the Rockies.
Its old homes and stores are extremely well preserved.
The
main ranch is at 9200 feet, far too high for poisonous snakes or
hay fever plants. Even in the summer, the days seldom get over 75
degrees with the nights cool enough for fires in the fireplaces
and sweaters or light jackets.
If you plan
to fly to Denver, it's an easy drive in a rental car or we can arrange
to have a ranch vehicle waiting for you at the airport. If you are
driving to the ranch, call or write us and we'll help plan your
route here and back. We are anxious to help.
