HORSEBACK
RIDING
We keep a
herd of close to 90 horses with variety enough so that there
is one suited to the experience of most any rider. Since many
guests have had little riding experience, we begin the week
with a very basic riding orientation program in the arena.
Guests may have as much instruction as they feel necessary.
You can also schedule arena time with any of our wranglers
for additional instruction through the week.
We offer
different trail rides every day except Sundays. The rides vary
from long to short and fast to slow. We are one of the only
ranches that can get you extremely high in elevation; we ride
up to 12, 200 feet! In all cases we provide experienced wranglers
to accompany all rides.
With millions
of acres of extraordinary scenery around us, you will never
get bored on the rides. By the middle of the week we hope you'll
be ready for some all day riding, and perhaps by Thursday you
will join us on an overnight pack trip. We have three sided
shelters complete with mattress, sleeping bags and pillows.
But the really big draw is the big steak meal and guitar at
10, 500 feet. We have special use permits which authorize us
to ride in Pike National Forest.
We will select
a horse for you at the beginning of the week and, if you like
the choice that will be “your” horse for the week.
For riding safety and comfort, we strongly encourage you to
bring boots or at least something with a good heel. Tennis
shoes and the like are not suitable for riding in the mountains.
On
Saturday it's rodeo time. Both kids and adults will have a
chance to compete in barrel racing, pole bending and all. Its
great fun to see folks (who a week before had never been on
a horse) proudly wearing a blue ribbon on Saturday night. But
don't worry; you'll have plenty of time to practice. |
