"The Best Week of Your Year!"

CONCERNED ABOUT THE HIGH PRICE OF GASOLINE?

Why not consider flying into Gunnison? the Colorado Dude & Guest Ranch Travel Service (1-800-729-5521) often provides guests with good rates right into Gunnison, where we'll pick you up. Whatever your mode of travel, once you arrive at the ranch, we will take good care of you. "Ranch-horse-power" is a great way to go, as these two old cowboys will tell you.

FAMILY NEWS

Rod & Junelle are spending some of the off-season in Texas, while Ryan and Tammy stay busy with the ranch operation. Randi Renee a senior at Gunnison High School, is looking forward to playing basketball this year; and she plans to attend Abilene Christian University next fall. Kolby, a freshman, is also looking forward to this year's basketball season. Dani is a third-grader, busy with a variety or school activities.

Other full-time "ranch family members" include Eric Soerensen, a 13-year veteran in the ranch maintenance and fishing guide departments, and Fannie Milton, a cook who joined our staff last winter. Lean Serrano, who lives at the hay ranch with her family, helps in the house throughout the year.

Wes & Kari Pringle teach in the Farmington, New Mexico school system, while son, Brody, and daughter, Jessica, have moved on to pursuits in the working world.

Rod S. and Elisabeth Pringle live in Abilene, Texas, where he works for UPS and she teaches in a Head Start program. Son Josh, attends Oklahoma Christian University, where he was the starting goalie for the OCU soccer team - until sidelined by a shoulder injury. Logan, a senior at Abilene High School is pursuing interests in drama and music.

MEET STEPHANIE SHALLBETTER, our local Masseuse.

Stephanie comes to the ranch twice each week during the summer season to accommodate guests who wish "renewal" in the form of a massage. Guests rave about this service.

MANY THANKS TO THE 2005 SUMMER/FALL LODGE HOSTS!

Last winter we solicited help from past guests to come for two-week intervals to server as volunteer "Lodge Hosts." Thirteen came to help for two or three weeks; and Terry Fox, a recently retired teacher from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, came for five weeks. They helped in various ways - mainly in answering the phone and closing down the lodge at night. However, we identified many other talents among this varied group - like light-bulb changing, drapery mending, cookie making, screen repairing, gift shop assistance, and loading for cookouts. Our last hosts even helped finish Eric's new bathroom.

SUMMER 2005

The summer 2005 weeks seemed to just "sail by," as we shared activities with guests from all over the U.S. Ranch guests came from 30 countries. Folks from Texas again "led the pack." However, states like California and Illinois are "closing in."

Favorite rides in 2005 were the Dome rides, Stridiron Gulch ride, Mingo Gulch ride, Canyon Creek ride and Baldy ride. The all-day ride to Stella Mountain is often the highlight of the week. Other favorite activities included competitive cattle penning, fishing, rafting, square dancing, and the Friday night Western music show. All of these rides and activities will be on the schedule for Summer 2006!

59% of all 2005 summer guests were return-guests, while another 25% were either brought to the ranch or sent our way by former guests. We're seeing a trend toward three-generation family groups; and it gives us pleasure to see these folks enjoy ranch activities together.

SUMMER 2006

In addition to rides and activities scheduled in 2006, we plan to include a trail ride to the Independence Gold Mining Camp some five miles from Waunita. We're also planning guided hikes in 2006 for the "hale and hearty."

WINTER 2005-2006

The coming winter season is shaping up to be a busy one. We already have a number of ski groups, snowmobile clubs, retreats and cross-country ski groups booked. There is still room for a few more, so contact us soon, if you are thinking of coming our way this winter. Between groups we often can accommodate individuals and families. And early snows indicate there will be plenty for schussing down the slopes. We provide rooms and meals only during the winter, while making sure the pool is warm and the spa is a bit warmer. Winters at Waunita are oh, sooo relaxing!

BUDDING ARTIST:
